I’ll be the first to admit that there are a lot of beauty products. And I’m someone who is pretty good at staying on top of things – for those who have hobbies outside of the makeup scene, it can be literally impossible. With so many launches coming out all the time, it can be easy to get stuck in a rut. Too often, a genius product can end up passing you by. Well, I’m here to help. Here are some highly similar makeup options, for your shopping pleasure.
I’ll love the Stila liquid shadows until my dying day. They’re by far the easiest way to dress up a makeup look in a matter of seconds. But what do you do if you’ve already tried all the Stila shades? Well, Too Faced also has a range of liquid glitters which are super similar. The Too Faced options have a little bit more pigment in the base with more obvious chunks of glitter, but both give a stunning finish on the eye which lasts all day. Guava Glitz, a multidimensional blue, is my favourite.
MAC Fix + is a classic for a reason, but if you want something cheaper which also extends makeup longevity, go for the NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray. Both give the skin a beautifully hydrated sheen, but the NYX also stops smudging and makes makeup last far longer. The only downside is the scent – MAC Fix + smells like heaven, while the NYX smells pretty much like rubbing alcohol.
I love a BB Cream for providing coverage, glow and SPF. While the Dr. Jart will always be close to my heart, the Missha is super-similar and far cheaper. Both provide an amazing amount of coverage, a healthy, juicy shine and a decent enough SPF to keep you looking like a baby forever.
The Lemonhead Space Jams are my not-so-secret makeup weapons. If you want to take your look from zero to hero in under ten seconds, a dabbing on one of these glitter gels is the way to do it. But if you’re running out of Lemonhead options to try, Colourpop has brought out some fantastic alternatives. The Glitterally Obsessed gels aren’t as opaquely glitter-packed, but they give a surprisingly similar vibe.
Generally, I’m not much of a bronzer girl, but these two are big exceptions to the rule. Nudestix Bondi Bae and the Milk Makeup bronzer are super similar is formula – they’re sheer enough to be easy to work with, and soft enough to allow easy blending. The shades are super similar, too, and both are perfect options for a fair to light complexion. Bronzing has literally never been so easy.
The Fenty Gloss Bombs have basically revolutionised the lip gloss scene since their launch. They’re super shiny without feeling heavy or sticky, and have the perfect pudding-y scent. If you want to expand your horizons, though, the Essence glosses are absolutely fantastic. They have the same glass-like finish, but are amazingly unsticky. They’re also incredibly cheap, so you can amass a pretty extensive collection guilt-free.
The Glossier lipsticks are fantastic for looking like you’re just too cool to have thought about your makeup too much. The MAC Powder Kiss lipsticks essentially use this idea, but offer a ton more shades, plus a softer, more hydrating finish and that signature vanilla-y MAC scent.
I feel like one of the only people who truly loved the YSL Glossy Stains. They never get the attention they deserve in terms of adding both hydration and a long-lasting lip colour. For those who feel the same as me, I point you in the direction of the Lancôme Lips L’Absolu Lacquer. They are absolutely fantastic, and super versatile. One layer gives a sheeny wash of colour, but they can be built up to deliver a jaw-droppingly high-shine, opaque finish.
