When it comes to under eyes, it can feel like you’re fighting a losing battle. From creepiness and fine lines, to dark, purplish circles, to loss of firmness or bags, dryness and irritation, there’s just so much that can go wrong. But as with any beauty concern, there are products to help. Here’s our roundup of the very best under eye treatments to help with whatever ails you.
Fine lines under the eyes can be tricky to deal with. One of the best quick fixes I’ve found are hydrogel patches – the Petitfée Collagen & CoQ10 Hydrogel Eye Patches are among the best. They feel absolutely delightful, and effectively deliver a smoothing and plumping look which is perfect for before a big event.
If you want a more lasting result, though, retinol is your ingredient to look out for. It can be super harsh, to go for a specific product intended for the under eyes. The ROC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream is a high-quality formula at a reasonable cost.
If darkness is your issue, vitamin C is your friend. If you love luxury, the Natura Bisse C+C Vitamin Eye is truly lovely. It feels like a smooth, decadent jelly which absorbs instantly and gives you a more perky, “awake” look. On the more reasonable end of the spectrum is the Tarte Maracuja C Brighter Eye Treatment. This is a slightly thicker, balmier cream which makes concealer apply flawlessly, plus offers a hint of colour-correction.
If colour-correction is your aim, though, the Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream is absolutely incredible. It’s creamy and thick, so instantly smooths and hydrates, but it also has a surprisingly big hit of pigment. The yellow tone helps cancel out the blue of your under eyes, making you look well rested but not obviously concealed.
Dry under eyes are another classic issue. They can feel really uncomfortable, plus look crêpey and flaky, which is no one’s ideal vibe. The most hydrating eye cream on the market is the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado. It’s almost like a lip balm for the under eyes, coating them with a lasting and protective layer of luxuriously oily moisture.
However, if you want something a little less greasy feeling, I point you in the direction of the Laneige Water Bank Eye Gel. This product feels like a long drink for a parched under eye. It absorbs super quickly, but leaves skin feeling plumped up and super resilient.
Eye bags are notoriously the most difficult concern to treat with cosmetics. But I’ve discovered a surprisingly cheap and effective solution: The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG. This is a lightweight gel serum which helps enormously with puffiness. While the effects are mostly temporary, you can notice a visible difference in the bagginess of your under eyes over time. Not bad for around a tenner.
