Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s likely you’ll have heard about HBO teen drama Euphoria. There are a ton of reasons to like this show – but one which (obviously) stands out to me is the incredible makeup of the cast. It’s everything I love – bright colours, glitter, and stick-on embellishments, but combined with natural skin, soft brows, and lip gloss. It’s been such a cultural phenomenon that “Euphoria makeup” has basically become a meme. Here are some products to help you get the look at home.
Aside from all the typical excitement of these makeup looks, another thing they all have in common is a natural, glowy base. We’re trying to look like teenagers here, after all. The Kosas Tinted Face Oil is perfect for this. Apply with fingers for an imperceptibly perfected finish.
The rest of the basic makeup elements are also deceptively simple. A thickening brow gel, like Glossier Boy Brow, plus a lengthening, defining, and clump free lash like the Maybelline Snapscara will be your friend. Juicy, sheer-yet-shimmery lips are also a must. The Frank Body Holographic Lip Gloss feels balmy and never sticky, but delivers a high-shine finish.
Onto the good stuff. My first Euphoria makeup recommendation is the Viseart Matte Palette in Editorial Brights. This has every shade you’ll need to create a colourful eye look, and the formula of these shades is second to none. They’re opaque in a single swipe, yet almost blend themselves. It’s pricey, but if you invest in this, you won’t need any other colourful palettes. Want? Well, that’s another story.
Colourful liners are also key to the Euphoria looks. Use them to add dots, squiggles, and angles around the general eye area. The Glossier Play Colorslide Technogel Eye Pencils are perfect for this, because they come in the most amazing and unusual range of shades. Early Girl, a duck-egg blue, Nectar, a chartreuse-y mustard, Critical Mass, a deep magenta, and Hardcore Velvet a teal-ish navy, are all ideal for the vibe we’re going for.
For a crisper line, I’d recommend the NYX Professional Vivid Brights Eyeliners. They’re cheap and cheerful, and come in every colour of the rainbow. Go for a dramatic wing, or use them to paint little shapes – the world is truly your oyster. A less opaque, but easier to work with option comes from Essence. Their Longlasting Eyeliner Pens have more of a watercolour effect, but can make mistakes far easier to get away with.
Glitter is integral to any Euphoria look, and one of the best out there is the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Diamond Dust. This can be used to add intense, opaque glitter highlights, but can also be sheered out across the lid for an almost wet, glossy look.
For a less subtle effect, though, the Glossier Play Glitter Gelée in Phantasm is perfect. Dabbed across lids with fingers, this gives an almost sequin-studded effect. You can even pick out specific glitter particles to create a more detailed, embellished look. In the same vein are the Lemonhead Space Jams – but these are even more intense. The glitter pieces are larger and in more diverse shapes, meaning you can dab on and look like you spent hours with the sequins and eyelash glue (that comes later).
Lemonhead is really the go-to brand when it comes to Euphoria makeup. Their Spacepaste in Houdini is another incredible product – looking sheer when you apply, but sparkling bright neon blue when it hits the light. Similarly, the Glowjam look like regular neon glitter, but actually glow in the dark under UV lights. If you’re going on a Euphoria-esque night out, they’re a total must.
Finally, no Euphoria makeup look would be complete without sticking stuff to your face. You can buy stick on gems, pearls, and sequins all over the internet. Apply using Duo Brush On Striplash and tweezers to ensure they stay put until you want them gone.
