Luxury is a complicated concept. It’s tricky, because for some, spending a lot of money negates any pleasure to be taken from a product. And I must admit, there’s nothing that’s more frustrating than a pricey product which doesn’t deliver.
On the other hand, sometimes a little bit of luxe is exactly what you need. When that luxury is in the form of a beauty product you use every day, it can give your daily routine a little touch of much needed sparkle. It’s all about choosing the right places to add this hint of bougie-ness. Here’s a selection of luxury products I think are totally worth the splurge.
In recent years, spending a lot of money on skincare has become less necessary. Skincare on the high street has never been better, and if you’re looking to build a simple, effective routine, you can absolutely do so on a budget.
However, if you do want to add a touch of luxe, there are some products I always count on. The Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Facial Toner is one. It’s essentially a moisturising water to apply to skin, but it’s so much more than your typical rosewater. It has literal rose petals suspended throughout, which makes the whole thing feel like more of an experience. It’s also supremely soothing, and works great to sandwich in some extra glow.
If glow is your aim, though, the Sarah Chapman 3-D Moisture Infusion Mask is one of the best skin treats out there. It’s unlike other sheet masks I’ve tried, as it really adheres to skin and infuses it with a ton of juicy moisture. If you absolutely need your skin to look its best, having one of these in your arsenal is an excellent idea.
An absolute princess product is the Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum. The price of this is enough to induce a wince, but it really will last a long time. Rather than incorporating this into my routine, I tend to use it as and when I need. It’s amazing on dry, irritated patches or to quickly heal a blemish. The fact it’s hand blended out of the finest oils is really just a bonus.
Makeup-wise, I have a few luxe products that spark intense joy. One is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. You wouldn’t think a powder could provoke such an emotional reaction, but this one does. It has the softest texture and infuses skin with an amazing, soft-focus glow. It gives you the elusive look of expensive skin in seconds.
Another luxury base product I have a serious love affair with is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. I’ve spoken about it a length, so I’ll be brief: if you like glowy skin, just get this product. You won’t regret it. I use it under or over my base to give me a juicy, sheeny, healthy skin look.
Generally speaking, I don’t think you need to spend a ton of money on lip products. But the Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture hold a special place in my heart. They’re a matte lip stain, so feel like you’re wearing nothing at all, but give a glamorous, pouty vibe. The shade 23 is a nude which literally suits everyone.
The world of luxury fragrance can feel like a slippery slope. Some of them cost the same as like, a car. But the Maison Margiela Replicas are a luxe fragrance collection I can get on board with. They’re not cheap, sure, but they come in huge, beautiful bottles, last forever, and have some stunning, unique scents. Jazz Club is a recent favourite. Although intended for men, it has a warm, boozy, smoky vibe that I think smells super sexy on anyone.
When it comes to home scents, a new discovery of mine has been the Blomus Scented Candles. There are a few great things about them, but the main two are the scents (which are complex and delightful) and the concrete packaging. They look absolutely stunning and super unique.
A final luxe recommendation is a Byredo Room Spray. In some ways, these seem like the most ridiculous product of all – but let me state my case. They’re essentially bigger, cheaper bottle of Byredo perfume. I spray my clothes and home liberally and everything feels more luxe and expensive. Because luxury isn’t a price tag – it’s a lifestyle.
