There’s something about a facial mist which just feels special. The very act of misting the air with what is essentially a fancy water and feeling it gentle careers your face that’s very Disney princess. And in a world of strife and stress, it can feel nice to just do something luxurious and relaxing.
But not all facial mists are created equal – and there are definitely some which target certain concerns better than others. In order to get the best from your facial mist, it can be beneficial to target your specific skin concerns. Luckily for you, I’m here to help. Here’s a guide to the best face mists for every skin type.
For a combo complexion, there’s truly nothing better than the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. It’s super refreshing, and has a clean, herbal scent that can only be described as delightful. While it helps oilier sections feel clarified, it can also add a boost of moisture to drier areas thanks to that super-chic layer of oils. It’s pricey, but if you truly want the princess experience, there’s nothing better.
A budget alternative to the Caudalie is the SW Basics Peppermint Hydrosol. It has the same refreshing scent and feel, but comes at a more affordable price. Is it as fancy? Nope. But will it get the job done and feel lovely while doing it? Absolutely.
If congestion is more a concern of yours, an innovative little product I’ve discovered is the Skindinavia Post-Makeup Recovery Spray. It combines astringent, pore-uncloggers such as witch hazel, willow bark extract and zinc, but also soothes and hydrates with raspberry and blackcurrant leaf extract. I’ve noticed it can really help skin recover from a day of heavier makeup.
For a super sensitive complexion, there’s no better facial mist than the Avène Thermal Water. Is it just water in a can? Well, yes and no. It’s spring water, so enriched with skin-loving minerals, but it’s also extremely simple and lacking in potentially irritating ingredients. If you want to sandwich in an extra layer of soothing hydration before a serum or moisturizer, and make everything else absorb a little better, this is a great option.
A similarly simple, yet more intensely hydrating, concoction comes from Heritage. Their Rosewater & Glycerin does exactly what it says on the tin. It feels instantly hydrating, but gives skin a long lasting hit of moisture and glow thanks to the inclusion of glycerin. It’s also one of the biggest skincare bargains around.
If hydration is your biggest concern, though, I point you to the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist. This really feels almost like an imperceptibly light moisturizer, and is a perfect way to introduce extra moisture to a dried out complexion. You can even use throughout the day if you feel things start to get a little dehydrated.
My final recommendation is The Body Shop Coco Calming Face Mist. This is a good all-rounder – soothing, hydrating, lightweight, and smelling like a tropical vacay. It’s also small enough to keep in your handbag, and inexpensive enough to spritz on liberally and with abandon. What more could you want?
