In our ongoing efforts to providing you with captivating, smart and enjoyable content, we deemed it appropriate and timely to scout for the next holiday destination that hasn’t already been discovered by the world of Instagram and the likes. After searching high and low for cities, beachside towns and villages that would be worthy of your next splurge, we made sure that A. it’s not a see and be seen type of place, B. it works for every personality type, from lazy beach bums to adventurous and thrill-seeking holiday goers. And most importantly, C. it’s got to be affordable, hence no glitz and glam! Adding to that, we jotted down a list of reasons why you should take a plane or train to that one place, what to pack, where to stay and what to do.

Oh, and in case you didn’t catch from the title which country we’re urging you to explore – that’ll be France as a whole – which means only one thing, and that’s the fact that baguette, butter and jam will be your daily breakfast.

From Normandy down to Corsica, there are reasons enough that France should be on your radar for your next holiday destination. The idea of laying on a chaise longue overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, swimming clear blue water with sun rays subtly glitzing through, or simply strolling through coastal towns along the French Riviera on the hunt for your next meal, these 4 places have been tried and tested, and are most definitely worth a plane ride!

First up,

Hotel Les Roches Rouges

Outside pool via Les Roches Rouges

Located between Cannes and St. Tropez, this architectural and interior design wonder is still very much considered remote, in comparison to its close counterparts of glitzy surrounding towns. As the hotel describes itself so appropriately: To step into Les Roches Rouges is to step out of the world and to delight in the pleasures of Provence, its flavours and fragrances. We’re happy to announce that this could not be more fitting. From Aaron Simmons vibes to a very insta-worthy decor, this is the perfect destination for a bachelorette party or a long weekend with your significant other. The rooms are effortless and chic, just like French women, and the outdoors offers expansive views over the Mediterranean. Still not convinced? Check out their Instagram for major inspiration @lesrochesrouges.

An old school timeless coastal town in the Basque region of France, this surfer paradise provides much more than just good waves. From picturesque streets to delicious Basque cuisine, Biarritz is the go-to place if you’re looking for a relaxing time with the option of catching waves amongst some of the world’s best surfers. Make sure to visit surrounding towns like Guetary as well as the Cite de l’Ocean et du Surf (great for kids and architecture lovers), and don’t forget to stop by one of the wine bars in town for well-priced Spanish-inspired tapas.

Ile Saint Honorat

A short boat ride from Cannes, the Ile Saint Honorat is a must-see if you’re in the region. With 7 different wines produced by the monks on sight, a monastery to visit, and a stunning restaurant (La Tonnelle) to enjoy lunch with an exceptional view of the bay of Cannes. It’s an ideal day spent away from the array of luxury stores along the Croisette and a serene place to visit away from overcrowded beaches surrounding the French Riviera. Book your tickets last minute and make sure to take in all the island has to offer!

Ile de Ré

Located off the west coast of France, this tranquil but chic French destination is a favorite amongst its citizens. Expect hundreds of km of cycling paths,  and only accessible a short bridge separating it from the closest city La Rochelle, it’s an easy place to get to via the high-speed train TGV. It’s a different scene than the South of France, offering beautiful hotels overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in a serene atmosphere. There’s plenty to visit too, we recommend heading to the Bell Tower in Ars-En-Ré and the lighthouse. Alternatively, you could simply stroll along the beach and admire its well-preserved nature, whilst indulging in local specialties.
