That’s right ladies and gents, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and whilst we all like a bit of cheesiness around the holiday that celebrates love and friendships, we thought it would be a good idea to investigate different and unique ways to let our loved ones know we care.

Don’t get me wrong, if you want to do the typical “here are the exact amount of roses for the years that I’ve loved you” tradition, I won’t be stopping you because I think it’s *so* important that you let the people you love most know how much you care, but do we have to have a specific day for that? Can’t you let them know you care on a day to day basis?

The more I thought about it, the more I decided that although you don’t necessarily *need* a specific holiday to buy your boyfriend or girlfriend a rose, it’s also an amazing opportunity to celebrate your love and friendships in special ways, and here are our top 3 tips below to make this year the most special Valentine’s day ever.

Who doesn’t love a surprise?

The first tip would be to try and surprise them with something they would never have thought about. Dig a little bit deeper than heading to your local florist, or booking a table at your favourite local restaurant, because although both of these options are great, your partner will know there hasn’t been a huge thought process there! I have to say there is absolutely nothing more special than when your partner surprises you with an awesome experience or present you would have never expected.

Think about what she or he might have told you about recently. Was it that bag they’ve been raving about, or about how jealous they were when they saw their best friend’s new coat? If you’re running out of ideas, we’ve also got a special Gift Guide on our website, and I’m sure you’ll find something they will absolutely love. All you have to do is make sure you don’t ask them what they would like if you’re planning on getting them a gift, because it will only make them think you have no ideas on how to treat them!

Get crafty and creative

February is usually a good month to try and save some money for the Summer holidays, which is also a good reason to look into ways you can get creative to save a few bucks. I personally love it when someone cooks me my favourite dish with a nice bottle of wine, and don’t even get me started with the old fashioned personalised playlist! Not exciting enough for you? How about putting together a photo album with your best photos together?

There are loads of ideas on websites such as Pinterest, blogs and Instagram. All you’ve got to worry about is to be prepared to use some of your creative skills! Anyone remember Phoebe’s sock bunnies on Friends? This reminds me, if you know he or she is a big fan of a certain TV show or movie you could even make something that will remind them how much you care, and listen to them!

Subscriptions will find its way to their hearts

I absolutely love a good subscription or voucher. Did you know that most restaurants, shops and gym studios do very interesting coupon offers? I was recently given a monthly subscription for yoga classes in a studio just down the road, and I am loving discovering a new hobby as I had never done any yoga before.

For this one, all you’ve got to remember is that whatever it is you decide to go for, it *has* to be for them only. For example, although I love the flower subscriptions from Bloom and Wild, the flowers will not be for them alone but for the entire house. You need to think about *them*, and what they love most such as a a beauty subscription box such as Birchbox, or a spa treatment, or even something relating to their fitness!
