Hell, if there’s one thing my man can’t live without, it’s got to be his phone. Not to WhatsApp his best mate about the new season of Orange is the new black, or to update his mom on the latest work drama, but to watch endless of (dumb, if you ask me) YouTube videos. That’s when I started asking myself whether men were that different from women, regarding their day-to-day necessities. And although « phones » came up 99% of the time when I did my research, I was surprised at how the list differed according to their age groups.

For the last two weeks, I’ve been asking men from different generations about their go-to products. Whereas millennials mentioned a lot of electronics or beauty products, the younger generations seemed more focused on clothes and accessories, and the 30+ on practical, or “grown-up” items such as their favorite suitcase or notebooks.

The 2 most popular items for all of the men I asked, however, was either their iPhone X or wireless Apple headphones. These were always on the top of their list, closely followed by Ray-Ban Clubmaster sunglasses and leather Ted Baker wallet.

When it comes to fashion, 2/20 people mentioned a New Era hat, 7/20 said they always have a pair of black Levi’s jeans in their wardrobe, and 3/20 mentioned their love for Nike Air Max sneakers.

In a less materialistic side, most of the men mentioned the fact that they could probably not go a week without a nice cold beer, and the most popular snazzy brand they mentioned was the Manchester-based brewery Cloudwater and the oh so popular pint of cold Guinness. Surprisingly, only 7/20 mentioned beauty products such as their usual deodorant, shaving cream or perfumes, but all outlined how important it is to have a few good quality shirts, jeans and of course, boxers.
