As you already know as our most loyal readers, is that we don’t like being left out of fashion’s trendiest pair of unicorn sneakers, or the latest (and most unpractical) diamond handbag, which is why this week we’re looking at the coolest, weirdest and most popular trends out there.
See, trends never really have to be practical, beautiful or even attractive as you will have already read from an article from last year. I even went as far as looking up the word in the Oxford dictionary for you, and a trend is identified as: “a general development or change in a situation or in the way that people are behaving; a new development in clothing, beauty etc.”.
Although we usually focus our attention on items of clothing and beauty products, it’s also important to keep in mind that a new trend is also about the way people behave and identify their lifestyles. Rest assured however, as this article will not only cover fashion but also food, beauty and more!
Strange lookin’ cocktails…
As you might remember from an article we wrote about this growing fad for bars and pubs to experiment with cocktails and alcohol, this year seems to be showing a growing interest in adding no other than mushrooms to our drinks. Yes, you heard it right, it’s all about “Mushroom Margaritas”, Truffle Gin Pigs” and “Mushroom Martinis“.
Popular mixologists explain that mushrooms are a new product that bartenders feel curious about due to its rich flavors. “There seems to be an obvious shift towards more savory ingredients in cocktails,” a bartender explained on The Guardian, “with a big emphasis on vegetables and vegetal notes”.
We like short, shorts!
Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to let you know that shorts are definitely the new skirt. Seen on street-style celebrities during fashion week in different shape and forms such as leather, with a suiting look and full of fun fringes, take your pick and start toning up those legs! Make room for your little brother’s trousers, because shorts are going to replace you in a heartbeat.
Planning “bite-size” holidays…
According to a recent booking.com survey, over half of the travellers in the world are planning on taking smaller weekend trips this year, rather than extravagant vacations. Smaller trips allow travellers to have more international experiences on a tighter budget which is exactly what Millenials are attracted to.
Feathers, feathers, and did we mention feathers?
From ostriches to peacocks and pigeons, it seems like feathers are the new fur! Runways during fashion week appear to be giving everyone wings, and although this fad is somewhat peculiar, we do appreciate the wonderful colors! While the trend appeared on the red carpet for the first time at Dries Van Noten, Marc Jacobs also offered an over the top feather dress which many adored. Think about it, you can get more grams in different locations!
Say no to meat…
We told you trends were not only materialistic – as one of 2019’s biggest trend according to WGSN is thinking of ways we can take meats out of our diets, seen in the growth in popularity of vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. Although we’ve seen an evident rise in flexitarian lifestyles for some time now, it’s evident that the mainstream consumer is cutting meat out of their diet much more frequently than ever before. We’re talking McDonald’s introducing a soy patty, vegan ice cream parlors and much more!
