We first started to have, what you could call, a slight obsession with tights watching Blair’s insanely cool white ones on Gossip Girl, but this fascination has recently made a major comeback thanks to Julia Roberts’ campaign for Calzedonia. Forget everything you thought you knew about them because this year, they don’t only belong under your dresses or skirts, but also under your jeans!
If you’re up for the fishnet look, here are a few things to keep in mind to ace the trend. You can either let the fishnet poke out of the rips of your distressed denim or wear a shorter sweater to let the detail of the tights peek through just over your belt. Either way, you’ll look super sexy (thanks to Kendall Jenner’s influence). Best thing yet – you won’t have to get rid of your ripped jeans in the winter.
Another cool way you can add texture to your outfits is by wearing fishnet socks, with sneakers or open heels. This is the ideal way to break up an all-black look. This option was undoubtedly inspired by the Asian catwalks, but has been recently adopted by our beloved street-style icons worldwide.
Whilst fishnets are indeed our top pick this season, we agree that they won’t always do the job of keeping you warm just as well as wool ones. This doesn’t imply you’ll look like a school girl either, because the hosiery innovation has been on full speed this year. What we mean by that, is that it’s not only about the simple sheer black tights anymore. You’ll find fun patterns, bows and even glitter on some. Talk about a good party accessory.
Today’s tight collections are all about ladder proofing, seamlessness, and skin-toning, so make sure you get good quality tights so you won’t have to buy new ones as soon as you step out of the house. A good tip is washing your tights inside out, and never using tumble-dry. The leg fitting of your tight is also a huge comfort factor. If the leg is too short, you’ll find yourself re-adjusting it all the time which can be such a pain!
