This week, as summertime vibes and vacation dreams are turning into longer summer nights, we couldn’t think of a better person to sit down with, than the gorgeous Tessa. Both a blogger and a musician, Tessa is a romantic victim of dazzling fashion, incredible adventures and good tunes. With her husband, she has been sharing her passion for music which hasn’t stopped her from becoming one of the most influential US-based bloggers.

AG: Hi Tessa! What an honour to be talking to you! Between your gorgeous floral dresses and red sunnies we just can’t seem to get enough of your social media photos!

To start things off, we know that you’re a busy bee between your musician and blogging career, could you first take a minute to explain to us what drew you to fashion?

TB: Fashion has always spoken to me, from a very young age I was heavily involved in the arts and fashion just seemed to be one more outlet for expressing myself. From painting, to writing to music to getting dressed, I really feel like they all fall into the same category. I have found so many mediums to express and create through, I feel extremely lucky. When I was in high school I talked my mom into letting me attend Parsons in NYC as a high school student to study Fashion Design. My passion and interest really grew from there as I started to understand the industry in an entirely new light.

AG: You’re not originally a New Yorker, in fact you actually hail from Salt Lake City, Utah! How did you transition from the two parts of the country and what would you say were the upsides and downsides career-wise? If any!

Moving to NY has been pretty much the best decision I have made in a long time. . . besides getting married hehe…. But honestly, I love being able to look at my aesthetic and style and realize it’s inspired from my growing up, living in Utah, even the way I go about taking my images and creating content in the city is so inspired by my adventurous days of living in Utah it has helped me stand out in the city. Ny is full of opportunity and being around excited people every day is so exhilarating. I have had the opportunity to work and connect with so many brands I had only once dreamed of. Everyone in the city is hungry for it and it creates a really  motivating work space.

AG: How would you describe your style of music and do you think that music influences your sense of style at all?

Ever since I was a child I have played music, so have all of my siblings. It was something that our parents expected of us at one point but quickly turned into a passion. In my teen years my younger sister and I played in a band as a duo. We wrote hundreds of songs and played shows every weekend. We loved bands like Fleetwood Mac and Talking heads. She was this blonde carefree bright soul and I was a mysterious edgier old soul and when we were put together there was a chemistry that created itself. 6 years ago my sister Sophie passed away unexpectedly. It has since then been a mission of mine as well as my 3 brothers to carry on her dream to change the world with music. She is really the inspiration and drive behind everything I do.

I am currently a part of a new project called Doe which I like to think of as my darker side, an outlet to express pain and heart ache in all forms but also reflecting often on the motto of Life is Short and living it to the fullest.

Music absolutely influences my style I look to so many legendary musicians for inspiration. I think a lot of unique styles have come from musicians trying things out on stage. I definitely like to ham it up a little more when getting dressed for the stage. I look to influences like David Bowie, Jack White, Stevie Nicks, and Joan Jett. I think there is a special effortlessness happening with musicians and fashion.  Our music is a blend of rock n’ roll inspired vocals mixed with hip hop inspired beats. Playing shows is really where my passion lies, there is nothing more exhilarating than finding out you have so much more to give, another part of you exists that you never knew about until you let yourself go in front of an audience of people. Music really does change everything and the fact that I can get to share a moment with someone I don’t even know for even just a second is worth every minute of it for me.

AG: We’ve been following your new YouTube channel (which we love), how exactly do you find the time to do all these things at the same time and how do you keep feeling inspired and passionate about creating new content?

Awe thank you! It’s actually really exciting and fun to be starting something new of which I really don’t know much about. I am hungry to learn and to get better at making videos.  I think that keeps the passion going. Creating new content every single day can be exhausting but the fact that I get to do it with my husband really helps create a sort of chemistry which is like nothing I have ever experiences before. We have a lot of fun doing it together.

AG: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Passionate, Curious, Adventurous

AG: And finally, how would you describe your sense of style and what are your two go-to brands?

My style is definitely inspired by the bohemian, care free rocker girl but I love to take a bold move and wear something off the cuff and unusual.

I love vintage shopping, finding those one off things that no one else will have and Opening Ceremony!
