In a perfect world, our wardrobes would be organized by season, giving us a full on-display perspective of what we should wear day by day. Unfortunately, that is far from our current reality, so we took it upon ourselves to create a digital closet of the party dresses we’re contemplating wearing this season.
For whatever it’s worth, let’s remind ourselves that it’s also the most wonderful time of the year, aka festive season where more is always more. In The Weekly Cut lingo that means going all out – expect velvet, thigh slits, sequins galore and satin silk slip dresses. Though our team is off to completely different destinations this winter, we rounded up the party dresses that work just as well on snow-covered mountain tops as while ringing in the new year, dancing barefoot on a beach in Tulum. The key to wearing the same dresses in different weather conditions and landscapes is in the accessories – upgrade your look with sparkle 6-inch heels and a fur scarf in Salt Lake City and downplay your outfit with a pair of greek sandals and boho fringe clutch for a dinner in the sand. The beauty in this is the multiple ways of wearing the same piece wherever you are, and no matter what you’re doing – this way you’ll be able to wear it next season, instead of retiring the dress come January.
Looking and choosing a party dress (or three…) to pack for your vacation can sound like the ultimate time-wasting errand, as if you didn’t already have your hands full between Secret Santa gift and juggling one Christmas party after the other? Oh and let’s not forget press week and Art Basel in Miami. But not for me. For me, tracking down what I picture myself wearing as I cheer into the new year with a glass of champagne in hand, is one of the most fulfilling things on my to-do list this week (or past months, if I’m being 100% honest). Nothing leaves you quite as satisfied as finding the perfect party dress to don between now and the early hours of January 1st. Questions ranging from ‘shall I go all out with a silver spaghetti strap and low back maxi gown?’ Or ‘would it be wiser to be more conservative since I’ll be spending the holidays with my family and a side slit is better to avoid than risk?’ are just some of the things crossing my mind as I make my selection on the beautifully colorful and festive buffet the Internet has on offer these days.
But most importantly, and this applies to you if you’re not planning on splashing $$$ on your evening wardrobe – the crucial dilemma between A. splurging now on your biggest crush, B. settling on an affordable piece that isn’t your number 1 choice, or C. waiting for the official Winter sale to open its doors and be ready to snatch up your dream dress last-minute? Personally, I like to be on the safe side and get my hands on a dress early on that’s guaranteed to not make me regret my decision. However, there’s no harm in having a quick browse through the sale section once it goes up – and if you’re an early bird and happy with the % off, why not spend your hard-earned cash on one more piece? The more choice, the merrier!!!
