Welcome to high summer – temperatures are well into the mid-3os in Central Europe, and we are in need of much air, to say the least! Fresh, cool, air that is. If you’re one of the few lucky ones to be armed with central air-conditioning or even a fancy and most practical Dyson cooler, then consider yourself fortunate. If you don’t however, sit still, take a deep breath, perhaps even try a few minutes of meditation, and then slip into a mini dress that will let through as much as you could possible get.
The same goes for anyone living in a cool apartment, but we’re making extra leeway for us less cool ones! Speaking of cool, summer is undoubtedly the one time a year where it is perfectly and genuinely acceptable to don the shortest dress or skirt you currently own in your closet. Short is one thing, let’s just double check it isn’t body con or too ill fitting for the occasion and time of day. Any other style is more than welcome in our office wardrobe – think ruffles, layers on layers à la much popular and Instagram snapped Rhode dress, featuring a popover silhouette and a flounced hem. In a similar fashion, we’re very much enthralled by anything LoveShackFancy puts out there this season. From yellow ruffled mini dresses like this one, to their classic white mini skirts for that ideal bohemian touch, consider us sold when it comes to showing off our pins!
And it’s not just ruffles and wrap around pieces that caught our eye. We noticed an abundance of elevated classics like this smocked tie-dye dress in one of SS19’s most desirable print and color tone, as well as feminine florals by For Love & Lemons with the perfect neckline. Sticking to florals, we’re adding bold yellow with a playful print and a twist neck detail with this gem by Self Portrait. While most pieces feature a belted waist, you don’t have to tell us twice to slip into a chic silk mini (try this neon green one) paired down with these classic strappy sandals by Studio Amelia (the croc-effect leather and red colour is the perfect shoe to transition from day to night). Alternatively, if you’re looking for long sleeves and no belt, then this sleeved and cutout number by Divine Heritage is calling your name. Scandinavian designer Rotate Birger Christensen is gracing the fashion sides of life with a strong focus on mini sleeved dresses featuring lamé and plissé-sateen pieces in vibrant oranges and fuchsias.
Needless to say, a mini dress *never* goes out of fashion. You may need to rehash your closet and gift away the ones you used to wear in college to make room for more tasteful choices that won’t stop you from bending over, should something fall on the floor. But that’s the least of your worries – what’s more important is which mini dress you will get your hands on for the weekend.
