We finally hit that sweet weather spot where it’s still acceptable and weather-proof to wear loafers and flats, but also allocate a specific time frame after work to bring out all your winter boots. With fashion month well underway, we dug into some of the best street style archives we’ve seen in a long time and put together a thoughtfully-curated arrangements of shoes to wear this season.
One thing is to be stylistically adventurous enough to pair the most outrageous garments with funky shoes; the other is to be a bit less daring but still want to hop on the train of well-dressed with a blend of your own style, and some cohort of out of the box pieces that can spark joy when getting dressed. It’s pretty easily said, but when you look at what this fall/winter’s collections are offering, it’s a bit more tedious to follow.
Between classic knee-high boots with either a slouchy look or straight up equestrian style, which is in my opinion a safe choice when it comes to footwear in winter – to more daring pieces like the chunky and track sole ankle boots worn with a mini dress or skirt. Never been one to swoon over the extra-oversized look for anything, the latter just seem a bit too big in relation to legs wrapped in tights followed by a pretty short iteration of a dress or skirt. Moving away from the shoes that cover half of our legs, we’re glad to see that bright-coloured heels are not just for summertime. That’s right, thanks to designers like The Attico, we will be blessed with pink heels with wraparound straps around the ankles, canary yellow open-toe sandals, and a lot of sequins.
In the event that you already own knee high boots, the perfect suede over the knee boots and easy to wear plain black ankle boots, do not despair. There are a bunch of newcomers (not the chunky heel kind) that are guaranteed to make you want to click “buy now”. Think snake and croc-effect boots in various colour tones, elegant camel ankle boots with neon translucent heels (courtesy of Amina Muaddi), plenty of gold iterations like these ankle boots or these much-photographed kind (yes, a girl can dream). Lastly, we’ve got our eyes on all animal-print styles, like this calf-hair zebra print by Khaite, in both short and long format, and a no-fail white leather sneaker for those days when all you want to do is stay in your loungewear and comfortable shoes!
