James Brown’s hit single It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World from 1966 might have been suitable for how the world was ruled in the past decades, but it seems as though the tides are shifting. As California becomes the first state to mandate female board directors for all companies headquartered in the Golden State, it’s only fitting to shine spotlight on a once only worn by men outfit: a two-piece suit.

The business or office suit has long been a staple in a men’s wardrobe for any occasion ranging from a work meeting to family lunches on the weekend. But when has it become the norm for women to wear one whenever it suits us (no pun intended), and how can we dress it up to look feminine and polished? We’re not talking about an old shapeless pair of pants and blazer in a grim shade of gray, but quite the opposite – form-fitting pieces in bold tones with an interesting structure and carefully designed details are all we’re dreaming of these days.

It may come as a surprise to some, but dresses and skirts aren’t the only pieces of clothing gracing our closets this season. In fact, you can thank their rise or shall we say spike in popularity to Blake Lively – the actress has been sporting suits of all kinds during her latest press tours; making us watch in awe how she manages to rock every single style, time and time again. From classic plaid, neon and a double blazer situation, see some of her best looks here, and get inspired on how to wear a sartorial style on your next outing.

Unsure which style to try first? For us, it’s all about versatility – one of the things we seek for most in a piece (no matter if it’s a suit or a pair of white sneakers) is that it’s all-round functional – and needs to match with the rest of our wardrobe. In this case, we aim for blazers that look just as good with their matching pants as well as on their own with a pair of skinny jeans and a silk top. Pants-wise, we prefer a high-waisted style to wear with a cropped top or oversized button down for a more relaxed yet elegant look. After poring through all the Internet has to offer, we settled on a few pieces that are guaranteed to make you look instantly put together, have a timeless feel and are easy to wear on their own or mix and matched with the rest of your Fall wardrobe.
