Spotlight On: Retro Stripes | The Weekly Cut

For a weekly dosis of fashion & lifestyle news, special deals & more exciting content!

Ever since becoming enthralled with fashion and style almost two decades ago, I’ve been pretty candid about what I think stands the test of time and what shouldn’t be worth buying. Between instant hit trends that make up 99% of your Instagram explore page which honestly don’t fit every taste, and styles that come back year after year, I’ve made it my priority to select and recommend the ones worth coveting. In this case, we go back to a decade long wardrobe staple that you should always have on hand: retro stripes.

Seeing the creativity and vision behind some of the most emerging designs enticed me to dedicate this week’s Spotlight On feature to stripes. An easy as pie pattern to wear from day to night, it’s the foundational summer trend to wear. It’s no surprise that categories like swim and beachwear already include stripes everywhere from bikinis, swimsuits to kaftans and coverups. Other places you can find us wearing the staple is a typical daytime dress like this midi one, mini dresses for date night and going out tops that double up from day to night.

The ultimate way to encompass it into your summer wardrobe? Add it to your knitwear and chilly nights by getting your hands on a warm sweater or polo shirt depending on the weather. You can also opt for knitwear in the shape of a maxi skirt like this one by Naadam or this one by AMI for a streamlined neutral palette. Should the occasion permit, we highly recommend getting on the rainbow stripes wagon with this Olivia Rubin skirt that is easy to pair with a plain t-shirt or buttoned-down shirt. Speaking of shirts, nothing says summer like a shirt dress, and this striped one by ASOS is a great option.

But that’s not all – stripes can be found in tie-dye styles, two-toned one shoulder tops like this one by Hellessey and the perfect multi-colored playsuit by Solid & Striped.
