Last week, I had the pleasure of chatting with the founders of RIXO London, a British Label founded in 2015 by Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey. Before setting up RIXO , the vintage lovers duo spent a summer road tripping through California, where they visited every good will (aka big charity shops), and took inspiration from the hidden treasures they found there. The brand was born with the necessity of filling a gap in the market that was lacking of beautiful hand-painted print, in easy to wear vintage inspired shapes. RIXO strives in ensuring the best quality for their garments and use 100% silk to create bohemian 70s inspired dresses and beautiful separates.
The vintage flair is the constant inspiration the duo reflects in both the print and the cuts of their pieces. The line includes tops, dresses and skirts, which are not trend led, but are meant to be long-lasting investment pieces. Their best-selling blouse, the Moss (retailing at £175), is comfortable to wear, made out of light weight silk and the neck bow adds a lovely 70s detail; while their most popular dress, the Camellia (retailing at £295), and skirt, the Georgia (retailing at £205), are those versatile items you can easy dress up or down with both heels and flats.
Pictures below are the classic cuts featuring the upcoming seasonal prints
Being a huge fan of RIXO, I could not stop myself from enquiring about what the next fall winter season will look like – and there are no better words than the founders’ ones to describe this stunning collection.
“…The collection is styled throughout with RIXO’s debut silk neck scarfs, retailing at £65”.
“It is all very Oriental inspired and we looked at lots of different types of bamboos, Oriental birds and moons and then we started painting them. Moons, clouds, cranes and bamboo play a significant role in the foundation of hand painted jungle prints while tiger embroidery finished off with crisp piping create a soft yet merciful power of femininity across the collections shapes. Modern and cleaner cuts, you’ll find kimono sleeved dresses and tops neatly clasped with oriental tassels”.
“Subtle shades of mint green are contrasted with a fierce orange and reds while a classic RIXO star print has been updated. Relatable, wearable and exquisitely made from light weight silk, favourites such as the Moss Blouse, Camellia Dress and Georgia skirt are back and are the perfect fall wardrobe updates”.
The great duo behind RIXO are two girls, Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey, who are not only best friends but also flat mates . They started setting up RIXO or their baby as they like to call it, out of the living room of their flat after short careers in buyer roles at ASOS and TKMaxx. The RIXO girls love travelling, indulging with pick’n’mix sweets and charity shopping and vintage hunting at fairs and auctions over the weekend. They’re secretly dreaming of spotting their pieces on the British style icons Sienna Miller and Kate Moss, as they’re definitely RIXO girls!
