Whether you’re about to fly off to a holiday in the sun, take the train/plane to your hometown to spend Christmas with your loved ones, or hitting the slopes with your significant other and pals, there’s one thing these destinations all have in common, and that’s the dreadful act of packing.
Before we dive off into what to pack for each holiday, let us take a moment to remind ourselves how much bigger our suitcases will be, as opposed to light and breezy summer packing. Which leads me to the next point, pack smartly! Depending on where you’re off and your baggage limitations, you’ll want to be diligent about what you’re bringing. Besides that tiny disclosure, let’s think about how much a vacation will benefit us – the winter holidays are always the one time where we get to fully decompress, remind ourselves how blessed we are and look forward to the future by drawing up some New Year’s resolutions.
Now onto the little things that bring us light and pleasure this season, and most importantly plenty of inspiration on what to wear! We’re thinking the smells of cinnamon and orange, pumpkin spice lattes and hot cocoa to warm us up when the heating isn’t enough. It’s also officially cuffing season, which if you aren’t yet familiar with the term is the period of autumn and winter, when single people are considered likely to seek settled relationships rather than engage in casual affairs. You may add that to your dating slang of the year, alongside ghosting, orbiting and more sci-fi terms.
Packing for an upcoming holiday can be a tedious process, because as we’ve witnessed in the past months, weather can be sort of confusing, which often leads us to being completely unfathomed about what to wear. Sure, there’s the option to dress in colors that correspond to the current foliage, or totally the opposite by taking the winter white route as curated by yours truly. The question remains, how to pack the most essential stuff in our one-piece luggage?
Below we share our top picks for each destination – from cozy after ski knits to the ultimate beach kaftan, and tried and tested chic boots to take you from slushy NYC streets to the nearest wine bar.
